Club Activities
Our club sections and activities offer something for everyone. With 18 different groups to choose from, joining offers a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and make new friends while trying something new. You can get involved with a hobby you already love or have always wanted to try.
Choose from wine club, gardening, Tai Chi, indoor bowls, fishing, snooker, petanque and more. Our club sections enter lots of local, regional and national competitions and events in many of the sections.
Billiards & Snooker
Every Wednesday at the Club at 7.30pm
The Club has four billiard tables and is the strongest Ashburton club in facilities and membership numbers. Both Billiards and Snooker are played.
Pool
The Club has three pool tables and a strong membership of its Pool Section, which regularly competes in the South Canterbury pool competitions. Tables are available to all members and guests.
Indoor Bowls
Every Tuesday at 7pm (February to September)
The Indoor Bowls section has the best floor quality of any facility in Ashburton. The Club takes part in local and provincial events and many national events. The mats are available for all members and guests at any time.
Outdoor Bowls
The Club has its own bowling green and other facilities on Racecourse Road only three km from the main building. It’s widely regarded as the best green in Mid Canterbury and hosts many important events, including the club’s own tournament at the end of the season. Any member may play on the green and we hope further expansion will take place in the future.
Petanque
Every Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday from 1pm
The Club’s petanque section plays at 115 Racecourse Road, Ashburton. Everyone is welcome.
Dance
Meets every Monday from 4pm – 6pm
Wine Club
Meets every second Wednesday of the Month at 7pm
In conjunction with the bottle store, the Club has an active Wine Club holding monthly meetings and tastings and periodic visits to wineries etc. Discounts are also offered to members of the wine club on a selected vintage each month.
Golf
Meets the Last Wednesday of each month at 7pm
The Section has regular events internally and with other clubs and regularly enters teams in both the men’s and women’s South Island Chartered Clubs events.
Cricket
Fishing & Hunting
The fishing and hunting section is one of the strongest in terms of members and the number of events. Held weekly when possible, they include deep sea fishing, surfcasting, diving, river and lake fishing, and hunting full and small bore shooting. In addition, guest speakers and demonstrations are also featured.
The section has a range of trophies for these events, which are displayed in the Club trophy cabinets in the hallway. Our present annual subscription is $10 and the Annual General Meeting is held in October each year.
